Description
Tudor Prince Oysterdate – Reference 74100
The Reference 74100 from the "Prince Oysterdate" line is an absolute insider tip for lovers of classic vintage and neo-vintage watches. Produced in the 1980s, this model comes from an era when Tudor watches were still officially delivered with the legendary case parts of the parent company Rolex. It offers the unmistakable look and robustness of a Rolex Datejust, but with the distinctive charm and affordability of a Tudor.
-
The Rolex gene (case & crown): The 34 mm case is a genuine Rolex Oyster case made of stainless steel. On the back of the case back proudly stands the engraving "Original Oyster Case By Rolex Geneva", and the screw-down winding crown also bears the famous Rolex crown. With its 34 mm diameter, the watch wears significantly more present due to the distinctive case shape than the number alone would suggest.
-
The smooth bezel: Unlike the often fluted versions, Reference 74100 features a smooth stainless steel bezel. This gives the watch a minimalist, almost sporty character and makes it the perfect, unobtrusive dress watch for every day.
-
The dial & hands: Typical for this era is the dial with the printed Tudor Shield (Tudor Shield). Often in classic Silver, deep black, or elegant Blue, it impresses with applied baton indices and the characteristic cyclops lens at 3 o’clock, which magnifies the Date. The hands and indices are often still coated with Tritium, which over the years develops a beautiful, creamy patina.
-
The reliable ETA movement: While Rolex relied on its own manufacture movements, Tudor used refined and highly precise Swiss ETA automatic calibers (mostly the robust ETA 2824-2). This movement already features a quickset Date function (Quickset) and a hacking seconds, is extremely durable, and can be easily serviced by any watchmaker.
-
The bracelet: The Reference 74100 is usually worn on the original Tudor Oyster bracelet made of stainless steel (often with the reference 7835B) and a Folding Clasp embossed with the Tudor Shield. It emphasizes the sporty-elegant tool watch character of the watch.
