Description
Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 16700 "Coke" (Steel, 1999)
The Rolex GMT-Master with reference 16700 from 1999 is a historic milestone for collectors – it represents the final production year of the very last, original GMT-Master series. Before the series was completely replaced by the GMT-Master II, reference 16700 stood for the classic, slim profile and the traditional factory setting, where the GMT hand is directly linked to the main time. Equipped with the legendary red-black "Coke" bezel, this timepiece perfectly bridges the charming neo-vintage era and modern everyday practicality. A true piece of Rolex history from the turn of the millennium.
-
The historic case design: The classic 40mm Oyster case made of robust Steel impresses with its charming drilled lugs (lugholes) and its noticeably flatter and more elegant construction on the wrist compared to modern models.
-
The iconic "Coke" bezel: The bidirectional rotating bezel features the famous red-black Aluminium insert to distinguish between day and night hours. The matte, metallic shine of the Aluminium develops a beautiful, individual patina over the years.
-
Reliable manufacture caliber 3175: Inside works the extremely robust automatic movement, which was exclusively made for this model series. It features a hacking function as well as a convenient quickset function for fast, independent adjustment of the Date.
-
Sapphire Crystal as standard: As the first classic GMT-Master generation, reference 16700 was equipped from the factory with a scratch-resistant Sapphire Crystal, which protects the dial and, thanks to the cyclops lens at 3 o’clock, makes the Date perfectly legible.
-
Classic wearing comfort on the Oyster bracelet: The model is worn on the timeless, three-row Oyster Steel bracelet. The late production years around 1999 are already equipped with the secure Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening in everyday life.
-
The finale of an era (year 1999): Since production of the original GMT-Master was definitively discontinued in 1999, a piece from this exact final year is considered by connoisseurs as "The Last of its Kind" – a sought-after classic with excellent value retention.
