The Rolex Explorer with reference 224270 from 2023 is the perfect contemporary interpretation of one of the most historic tool watches in the world. Developed as a direct tribute to the first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953, the Explorer has always stood for uncompromising reliability under the most extreme conditions. With this generation newly introduced in 2023, Rolex responds to the desire of many collectors for a contemporary size and offers the model for the first time in a striking 40 mm case. The result is a watch that perfectly preserves its minimalist tool DNA but unfolds a noticeably more modern presence on the wrist through the new proportions.

The new 40 mm Oyster case: Made from the extremely corrosion-resistant Oystersteel (904L stainless steel family), the case combines a satin finish with a highly polished, smooth bezel. Despite the larger diameter, the watch remains as flat and elegant as usual.

The legendary Explorer dial: The deep black, glossy dial impresses with its absolutely reduced design. The unmistakable trademark features the distinctive Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock as well as the prominent triangle at the 12 o’clock position.

Outstanding Chromalight luminescence: For perfect legibility in complete darkness, both the hands and all indices and numerals are filled with Rolex’s proprietary Chromalight luminescent material, which glows long-lasting and evenly in a striking Blue.

State-of-the-art manufacture caliber 3230: At the heart of the watch works the latest generation automatic movement. Equipped with the patented Chronergy escapement and the paramagnetic Blue Parachrom hairspring, the movement offers an excellent power reserve of approximately 70 hours as well as "Superlative Chronometer" precision of -2/+2 seconds per day.

Sovereign robustness: Thanks to the screw-down Twinlock winding crown and the hermetic case architecture, the Explorer is absolutely dust- and waterproof up to a depth of 100 meters (10 ATM).

Oyster bracelet with perfect ergonomics: The three-link stainless steel bracelet has been precisely matched to the new case proportions. The Oysterlock safety clasp prevents accidental opening, while the Easylink system allows a quick, tool-free extension of the bracelet by 5 mm on hot days.
