Description
Omega Seamaster "Soccer Timer" (Ref. 145.020) – The Timekeeper from the Sidelines
The Omega Seamaster Soccer Timer (Reference 145.020) is a product of the late 1960s and early 1970s. At a time when Omega dominated timekeeping at the Olympic Games, this model was specially developed for football referees. It is a perfect example of how Omega translated specific functions into an iconic design.
The distinctive "Roulette" dial
The most striking feature of the Soccer Timer is its extremely high-contrast dial, often considered one of the most beautiful in the Omega vintage world:
-
The 45-minute mark: The minute totalizer at 3 o'clock features a distinctive "45" below the zero. This allowed referees to see the duration of a half at a glance.
-
Color coding: The combination of bright Orange, Red, and White on a black or gray background ensures excellent legibility and gives the watch a distinctive Retro charm.
-
Tachymeter scale: An inner Ring allows the calculation of speeds, making the watch functional beyond the football field.
The case: The classic cushion shape
The case of the Ref. 145.020 impresses with its typical cushion shape (C-Case) of the 70s. With a diameter of approx. 41 mm, it still appears very present and modern on the wrist by today's standards. The combination of brushed surfaces and polished edges emphasizes the tool character of the Seamaster line, while the integrated pushers and protected crown ensure robustness.
The heart: Caliber 861
Inside works the legendary Omega Caliber 861 with Manual Wind. This movement gained worldwide fame as the heart of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch (after Caliber 321).
-
Durability: The 861 is known for its longevity and precision.
-
History: Since it is based on the Lemania base movement, it offers the classic chronograph feel that collectors appreciate so much.
Collector status
The Seamaster Soccer Timer 145.020 has risen to become a true collector's favorite in recent years. It is the ideal choice for enthusiasts seeking the technical foundation of the Moonwatch but preferring a case and dial that are bolder, more colorful, and rarer. Whether on the classic steel bracelet or a sporty Corfam leather strap – it is a piece of time history that bridges professional sports and mechanical perfection.
