Description
Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph (Ref. 106487) – Tribute to the Inventor
The Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec in reference 106487 from the year 2016 is one of the brand’s most distinctive watches. It is a direct homage to the French watchmaker Nicolas Rieussec, who patented the first "ink Chronograph" in 1821. Instead of rotating hands, the original used rotating discs – a principle that Montblanc has masterfully translated here into a wristwatch format.
The Striking Face: Symmetry and Depth
The dial of this stainless steel watch is architecturally divided into several levels and offers a unique look:
-
Off-center Time Display: The time is shown on an offset dial at 12 o’clock, decorated with fine guilloché and classic Arabic numerals.
-
The Chronograph Discs: The highlight is the two rotating discs in the lower area (60-second and 30-minute counters). Instead of hands, a fixed double hand in the center indicates the elapsed time.
-
Day/Night Indicator: Integrated into the main dial is a discreet display that distinguishes between day and night – especially useful when setting the second time zone (GMT).
Manufacture Movement MB R200: Mechanical Excellence
Behind the sapphire crystal case back works the Caliber MB R200, a true manufacture movement with automatic winding.
-
Monopusher Control: Typical for the Rieussec series is the single pusher at 8 o’clock, which sequentially controls the start, stop, and reset functions.
-
Column Wheel Chronograph: The vertical clutch ensures that the Chronograph starts completely jerk-free and protects the mechanics.
-
Double Barrel: With a power reserve of approx. 72 hours, the watch is ready to use immediately even after a weekend without wearing.
Case and Presence
With a diameter of 43 mm, reference 106487 has a substantial presence on the wrist. The polished stainless steel case is classically round and emphasizes the instrument character of the watch. The onion crown and the curved lugs give it a noble, almost baroque elegance despite its size.
