Description
The Rolex GMT-Master II with reference 16710 from 1997 is one of the most sought-after neo-vintage sports watches from the Geneva manufacture. As the legitimate successor to the legendary reference 16760 (“Fat Lady”) and the first GMT-Master II (Ref. 16760), the Ref. 16710 combines a slim, classic case profile with state-of-the-art movement technology. In the coveted “Coke” version - with its two-tone Red and Black Aluminium bezel, reminiscent of the branding of the beverage giant - this 1997 example represents the perfect transition from the classic tool watch to the modern luxury icon.
Classic 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case: Crafted from robust stainless steel with finely satin-brushed surfaces and polished sides. The case back and lugs still feature the characteristic drilled Lug Holes, underscoring the authentic tool-watch character of the 1990s.
Two-tone Red and Black Aluminium bezel (“Coke”): The bidirectionally rotating 24-hour bezel made of Aluminium, which develops a light patina over time, features the iconic division into Red (day) and Black (night) for reading a second time zone.
Black dial with Tritium or Luminova luminescence: The deep Black dial features classic white indices with framed luminous dots, along with the characteristic Mercedes hands and the striking Red GMT hand for the reference time.
Cyclops lens and Date at 3 o’clock: The simple Date window is highlighted two and a half times by the integrated magnifying lens on the Sapphire Crystal.
Precise in-house calibre 3185 (COSC-certified): Inside, the extremely robust automatic calibre 3185 features the groundbreaking quick-set mechanism for the hour hand, enabling independent adjustment of a second time zone without affecting timekeeping accuracy.
Scratch-resistant Sapphire Crystal: Flat Sapphire Crystal protects the dial and provides a clear, undistorted view of the complications.
Screw-down Triplock or Twinlock winding crown: The screw-down crown, together with the solid case back, guarantees reliable protection against moisture.
Reliable water resistance (100m / 10 ATM): Offers the proven everyday practicality and robustness of the legendary Oyster architecture.
Three-row Oyster bracelet or five-piece Jubilee bracelet: The reference is available either on the sporty satin-finished Oyster bracelet (Ref. 78790) or the elegant Jubilee bracelet with a classic Folding Clasp.
Coveted neo-vintage icon (1997): The reference 16710 “Coke” is a true piece of watchmaking history - mechanically refined, historically significant and aesthetically unmistakable.
