Description
The 1970 Rolex Datejust, reference 1601, is the essence of classic vintage charm and the archetypal Geneva dress watch. Introduced in the late 1950s, this reference defined the face of the Datejust for more than two decades. With its warm Acrylic Glass, finely fluted White Gold bezel, and unmistakable, rattling Jubilee bracelet, the 1601 embodies the perfect blend of timeless elegance and historic craftsmanship, making it a sought-after classic among vintage collectors today.
Elegant 36 mm Oyster case in stainless steel: Crafted from robust stainless steel with classically curved, delicate lugs and satin-finished bracelet shoulders. The 36 mm proportions are still considered the perfect size for a classic men's watch or a sophisticated Women's watch.
Finely fluted bezel in 18-karat White Gold: Unlike modern, wider fluted bezels, the bezel of reference 1601 is narrower, more delicate, and more finely crafted. It catches the light in a softer, more understated way.
Classic dial with a “Pie-Pan” profile: The distinctive, often finished in Silver, champagne, or a fine sunburst blue, the dial has a gently sloping edge (Pie-Pan Dial), giving it three-dimensional depth. Set with applied baton hour markers and finely milled hands.
Date display at 3 o’clock with open and closed date numerals (“Silver/Open 6 and 9”): Historic date window with the characteristic 2,5x Cyclops magnifier under the highly domed Hesalite crystal (Acrylic Glass).
Legendary Automatic Manufacture Caliber 1570 (COSC-certified): Powered by one of the most robust and durable movements in watchmaking history - the legendary Caliber 1570 with Breguet hairspring, Microstella regulator and a frequency of 19.800 beats per hour (approx. 48-hour power reserve).
Historic Hesalite crystal: The highly domed, organic Acrylic Glass provides the characteristic, warmer refraction of light and unmistakable vintage look, which Sapphire Crystal cannot replicate.
Screw-down Twinlock winding crown: The classic crown with the raised Rolex crown logo and the dash symbol for water resistance.
Classic water resistance (50m / 5 ATM): Given its historical age, check for water resistance before wearing it in water, even though the watch was originally designed for everyday wear.
Five-row Jubilee bracelet (folding): The distinctive, slightly stretchable historical stainless steel Jubilee bracelet with embossed Folding Clasp, which sits snugly and lightly around the wrist.
Unaltered Vintage Icon (1970): Reference 1601 combines the authentic, lived-in spirit of the 1970s with uncompromising Swiss mechanics - a stylish, value-retaining companion with a story to tell.
