Description
Breitling Sprint (Ref. 2010) – Vintage Character of the 70s
The Breitling Sprint, especially in the sought-after reference 2010, is a prime example of the functional and bold design of the 1970s. Originally conceived as a more affordable, lightweight sports chronograph for athletes and referees, it has today become a true cult object for vintage collectors.
Striking Cushion Case
The most distinctive feature of reference 2010 is the large, cushion-shaped case. Breitling often experimented with different materials in the Sprint series; while many models were made from coated resin or fiberglass to save weight, the steel version impresses with its robustness and masculine presence. The ergonomic shape ensures an excellent fit on the wrist despite its size.
The "Surfboard" Dial
An absolute highlight for design enthusiasts is the so-called “Surfboard” layout of the dial. The two subdials (totalizers) are connected by a color-contrasted, oval area that visually resembles a surfboard. This gives the watch an extremely sporty and dynamic look, typical of the 70s aesthetic. Often, pulsometer scales can also be found on the edge, used to measure heart rate.
Mechanics: The Valjoux 7733
Inside the Sprint 2010 usually works the legendary Manual Wind caliber Valjoux 7733. This movement is known for its indestructibility and ease of maintenance. It is a classic cam-actuated chronograph that offers the characteristic mechanical click feeling when operating the pushers.
A Piece of Sports History
The Breitling Sprint was never intended as a "jewelry piece," but as a real tool. That is what makes its charm today: it appears less formal than a Navitimer but brings an enormous dose of Retro coolness. Worn on a perforated “Rallye” leather strap, it is the perfect statement for individualists who appreciate the colorful and experimental era of watchmaking.
