Description
A. Lange & Söhne 1815 (Ref. 221.021) – Homage to Tradition
The Reference 221.021 from the year 2001 belongs to the first generation of the 1815 collection. Named after the birth year of the company founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange, this model embodies the classic, purist style of Glashütte watchmaking.
Case & Proportions
The watch is made of solid 18 karat Yellow Gold and has a diameter of 35.9 mm. With this classic size and a slim height of approx. 7.5 mm, it is the perfect dress watch, radiating subtle luxury without being intrusive.
The Dial: Pure Classic
The design is inspired by historical Lange pocket watches:
-
Material: Made of solid Silver (Argenté).
-
Railroad Minute Track: The distinctive "Chemin-de-fer" minute track frames the dial.
-
Numerals: Black printed Arabic numerals ensure excellent legibility.
-
Hands: The lance-shaped hands are made of blued Steel – a process that creates a deep, corrosion-resistant blue color through heating.
-
Small Seconds: Positioned off-center at 6 o’clock.
Caliber L941.1: A Feast for the Eye
The hand-wound manufacture movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back and offers the typical features of the Saxon school:
-
Three-quarter plate: Made of untreated German silver, which develops a warm, yellowish patina over time.
-
Hand-engraved balance cock: Each piece is unique.
-
Screwed gold chatons: Held by blued screws.
-
Swan-neck fine adjustment: For precise regulation of the beat.
-
Power reserve: Approx. 45 hours.
Collector Status
The 221.021 from the era around 2001 is especially valued by collectors today, as it represents the "rebirth phase" of the brand. While modern models are often larger, the 36-mm version is considered by purists to be the most harmonious execution of the 1815, as it bridges the gap between pocket watch history and modern wristwatch comfort.
